Mike rode the Cyclone several times, while Caro sat on a handy bench and cheered him on. I took the opportunity to do a little exploring.

While riding the train around the lake, I'd noticed the park had an onsite dump area, which I was curious about. When I walked that direction, I came upon the old pony ride paddock, which I instantly remembered from my childhood!

What you see straight ahead in the distance is the old Lakeside Speedway track. But for now, we're going to step through that gap in the rails.

Two of the firetrucks that used to service the park. Or maybe the racetrack. Whichever caught on fire the most, I guess.

I vaguely remember this stainless steel beauty. I think the cars were on chains attached to a wheel overhead, but it also could have been a swing-type ride.

Some of the old Skeeball games.

The lights are out now for these great old wonders.

Next I made my way over to the old Speedway. Here's the original sign by the parking lot.

Walking around, you can see one section of the old stands and what I think was a check-in for the cars.

There's the announcer's booth, up high so they could catch and report all the action.

No Fear -- of the competition. But rust never sleeps....

An entrance gate by one of the snackbars.

These guys have been in line a really long time.

The track is currently being used as storage for old trailers. Aren't these beauties?
