Mike rode the Cyclone several times, while Caro sat on a handy bench and cheered him on. I took the opportunity to do a little exploring. While riding the train around the lake, I'd noticed the park had an onsite dump area, which I was curious about. When I walked that direction, I came upon the old pony ride paddock, which I instantly remembered from my childhood! ![]() What you see straight ahead in the distance is the old Lakeside Speedway track. But for now, we're going to step through that gap in the rails. ![]() Two of the firetrucks that used to service the park. Or maybe the racetrack. Whichever caught on fire the most, I guess. ![]() I vaguely remember this stainless steel beauty. I think the cars were on chains attached to a wheel overhead, but it also could have been a swing-type ride. ![]() Some of the old Skeeball games. ![]() The lights are out now for these great old wonders. ![]() Next I made my way over to the old Speedway. Here's the original sign by the parking lot. ![]() Walking around, you can see one section of the old stands and what I think was a check-in for the cars. ![]() There's the announcer's booth, up high so they could catch and report all the action. ![]() No Fear -- of the competition.
