And the hits just keep on coming!

Just when you think things are smoothing out...you know how it works....

Monday I knew I had a report to write for our Judicial Performance Commission, but I fiddled the day away doing other stuff. When I finally sat down at the last minute to do it, I COULD NOT FIND MY NOTES ANYWHERE!!!! These were notes from the interviews of judges, somewhat important to what I was supposed to be writing.

So Tuesday I finally gave up and wrote the report using the other info I had, plus whatever I could dredge up from memory, sandwiching it all in between book-packing and other things I HAD to do. It came out okay and I went to bed feeling reasonably satisfied with the day, and expecting today to run more smoothly.

But about 5 minutes after I got up this morning, the electricity went out. It was a big outage, hitting about half the county, from what I hear, and it didn't come back on again until 3:30!

With no high-tech stuff to distract us, Mike and I did get things done, like washing the dog to separate her from the newest dose of her favorite fur conditioner (horse manure), and making a run to town (where they DID have power) for my monthly pills and our weekly library trip. At the library, they told me they heard the power problem was fixed, but we got home and found they were WRONG!!!

So I have been feeling very put-upon, although trying to be cheerful about other things, such as the free water that fell from the sky last night. Yet it seems I have much more important things to be thankful about, which I will address shortly. Right now the Boy informs me I ought to be spending some quality time with him and his Sims.

Bits and pieces

I knew there were things I wanted to add yesterday, but I couldn't get my brain-act together. Now I have thought of several.

1. I am so out of the mainstream that when I went driving past the Lamar Theater, I checked out the marquee and thought, "Huh. M 13. I wonder what THAT movie's about? Never heard of it...."

2. For the last day of school, Mike had to bring a permission slip for the pool party. What he kept asking me to sign was the "promise slip". We got it all straightened out, but I have to admit, I sort of like the idea of a promise slip. It would be cool if we could get people to sign us promise slips for things. Like, they promise you will like the movie, or they promise you will still like the cute outfit you bought after you wear it twice. Things like that.

3. Cowboy has once again failed to resist the urge to herd a skunk out of the yard. So he is the poor smelly boy having to sleep in a crate instead of in my bed, because when he even comes in the room, OMGWFTBBQ DOG BOMB!

You know me!? Old...old....hmm....

Extra points to name the movie my subject line is from!

Man, if it's not one thing around here, it's ten. I feel like April and May turned into a multi-car pile-up, and all of the cars were me.

So the short version of the catch-up is Sick, eBay stuff, Judicial Review group, out of town for State Dem Assembly, Judicial board again, and also End of School jolliment. With lots of nonsense in between.

But we are all alive and reasonably well here at the House of Unruly Fish, and I am cautiously optimistic that THIS time I can really, truly get caught up on my correspondence.

Really.

Mothers' Day Miscellanea

First the humor. My mom sent this little Windows Media clip to me. And yet, it was LOL funny! (My mom has many fine qualities, but our senses of humor don't overlap much.)

It's about two brothers trying to work together on a Mothers' Day gift. Really worth the download. Let me know if more than 25 people grab it, and I will re-upload it.

Next, I got the most jolliest thing from Caro and Mike for Mothers' day!

Isn't it amazing and neon-y? See, it has stirrers and sticker-things and plastic reusable ice cubes and coasters!! It also has recipes for drinks, but I already have one that Damaris and I are going to try out next week when I am up there:

High Maintenance Bitch Martini: Dip edges of chilled martini glass in cherry syrup then dip in sugar; Stoli vanilla vodka in a martini shaker; Stewart’s Cherries ‘n’ Cream Soda; Add ice and shake; Garnish with cherries.

Mmmmmm!

Once more into the eBreach

I didn't do anything very exciting over the weekend, mainly catching up on as many things I'd fallen behind on as my semi-recovered state would allow. Today I was hoping to REALLY jump in with both feet and get some stuff done.

So of course my internet connection got flaky on me and kept shutting itself off every few minutes. All. Day. Long. Annoying.

I finally broke down and contacted CenturyTel, where the people claimed to have no idea what might be going on and suggested I phone for a technician visit. Not long after that, the connection just spontaneously went back to working fine. ???

I HOPE it will stay that way, because tomorrow eBay has decided to hold another of its famed Dime Listing Days. Except for them AGAIN choosing a day when I have a meeting I can't get out of, their timing is excellent, bill-paying wise.

See you all on the other side!

The birds are back

And so am I.

Yes, it's really full tilt spring around here because the first round of nestlings have hatched in the wall gap where our secondary air conditioner lives. We can hear them quite well, even through the duct tape. I think they are probably starlings, and according to an article I read (and only vaguely grasped) in the online New York Times last week, they are working on some kind of language development project.

I hope they don't need any help with it, because all this past week, due to overzealous phlegm production resulting in the usual bronchitis attack, I have been the embodiment of the popular saying, "I can't brain today. I have the dumb."

Hence no posting or email and only a precious few short comments here and there. But in case anyone was wondering, yes, I am alive and more or less on the mend.
