This is my friend Richard
I took this picture in January of 2001. My daughter and grandkids and Mike and I had made plans to meet him and his daughter at the National Western Stock Show, to see the moocows and such. We had been pleasantly surprised to accidentally meet up a little earlier on the shuttle bus.

Richard is one of the nicest, funniest, kindest, smartest yet self-effacingest people you could ever hope to meet. His wife is exactly that same type of person. I haven't had the privilege of being around their daughter much, but when I have been, she's been sweet, cute, smart and darling.
It's a good thing I don't expect the universe to be fair, or even to make sense, because damn, this doesn't. The brain tumor had cowered back a while under the onslaught of radiation, but it started up again and the prognosis is very negative.
I think I am going to print this picture out, and tape it up here at my workspot, as an antidote for those times when I foolishly and for very little actual reason feel sorry for myself.
