So, did you miss me?
It all started several weeks ago, partly because of Nigel, my super son-in-law, coming out a close second in a wrestling match with the riding lawn mower. The ER doc told him he couldn't work for at least a week, which was going to present a major problem paycheck-wise. (Thank GOODNESS our homeowner's insurance at least covered his medical costs! Yay State Farm!)
We put our heads together and came up with a plan for Damaris and fam to come down here and help work the fabled book mines, since it so happened that we were not exactly flush with the cash here at the House of Unruly Fish either. Damaris brought her computer down, and we slotted it into our little home network hub, with only minimal angst. (After I remembered Caro's OLD computer which was languishing down in the Basement of Doom DID have the right ethernet card, which Damaris's did not.)
Damaris's only stipulation was that if SHE was going to be typing her little fingers off, then I should be too. No playing around on LiveJournal or PopCapGames or anything else! And she was right, that was only fair.
One of the funny things about being an ADD type is how easy it is to get slotted into some new activity, which can turn into almost an obsession, just like THAT. (Picture me snapping my fingers. Thanks.) It's crazy, some of these stacks and bins of books have been sitting around here for YEARS. I've found missing bills from 1998! But all of a sudden, I have been all gung ho at the sorting/book selling/eBaying thing. And by the time of night when Caro and Mike went to bed, I would be too mentally fried to form coherent sentences that didn't involve the condition of dust jackets. So I've been procrastinating AGAINST LJ and email, in a complete reality reversal!
Here's what I've failed to post about:
Caro's pumpkin got second prize at the county fair. It was also on the front page of the Lamar Daily Snooze. ABOVE the fold!
Damaris and the kids and I were in the fair parade, and she sat at the Democrat booth with me.
I made a web page for the Prowers County Dems.

Picked what seemed like a good day to go do back to school shopping, and ended up having to drive home through what was pretty much a typhoon for our high dry prairie! Highway flooding, times when visibility was about 10 feet ahead, fun stuff like that. We did hit excellent sales, though.
Caro had a "funny" lump removed. Sadly, the homeowners insurance does NOT cover that, but at least she has almost decent health insurace. And it was benign and she's healing up pretty quickly, so that's VERY good.
Mike started Middle School Monday. 0.o How can my baby be this old??? He was kinda nervous, but seems to be adapting well. Despite a lot of uncertainty on the part of all the adults involved, he has signed up for Band and will be playing the bells, which is sort of a simplified xylophone. At first the teacher thought he would put Mike on the baritone (a brass horn, smaller than a tuba, bigger than a trumpet), because Mike could actually make assorted sounds on that at the tryout. (Like a lighthouse fog horn. It was love at first Ooooo-ahhhh.) But the teacher wants to see how he handles learning to read music first. Guess what I get to do, in order to help Mike?
Hmm. I know there were more things I was going to say. Oh, well, I'll post this now, and do more later! (Really.)
