Yes, very dignified.
From THIS story about a man who weighed over 1,000 pounds finally getting some medical help:
"A group known as the League of Human Dignity helped arrange for Deuel to be driven to a local livestock scale, where he could be weighed."

What I've been doing today
I went to bed before midnight last night, and slept until almost 10am.
For most of the day, I have been going through my digital photos of Recent Events and Photoshopping them into presentability.
It's a bit after midnight now, and I'm planning to catch up with LJ before I go to bed. That is all.

Saturday was insane but SO cool!
I got up at 6am on Saturday, in order to turn up for duty at 7. We did some little tasks, and I took some pics, and in the end I was assigned to guard the perimeter and fend off all but the "aged and infirm" from the Lamar location of the Colorado Welcome Center.
As soon as the Genuine Celebrities showed up, so did the Genuine Security Types, so I homed in on the real goings on. I'm happy to say I got LOTS of great pics (for our upcoming Prowers County Dems website), and also got to shake hands with the one and only John Kerry!
After it was over, Damaris and the kiddos and a few other stalwarts and I helped do the really low-ranked task of cleaning up. :/ After grabbing a few pizzas, we went home for some well-deserved rest.
I had put in quite a few extra foot hours, and after I spent some time trying to catch up to my email and LJ, I gave in to the urge to soak in a really hot bath for a while. Unfortunately, this was a cue to the universe to unleash another round of Seriously Bad Luck.
My bath of nice HOT water was about half full when Caro came bursting into the bathroom yelling, "Susan, Nigel's HURT!!"
Like any old war horse, I lept forth to answer the call.
Probably one day Nigel will get over the shock of inadvertently seeing me rise from the waves, not so much like Venus, but more like Shamu at Sea World. Except I didn't get even a shred of dead fish bits for my trouble....
Nigel had been trying to fix a broken belt on the riding lawn mower, and a stabilizing bar on the mower deck sprang back to smack him between two fingers on his right hand. So after I (quickly wrapped in a handy bathrobe) wrapped his hand up in a towel, Damaris drove him off to the ER.
It didn't really stop me from whining about how much my feet hurt, but I did it a lot more quietly....
Seriously, I was really really really really tired from all the stuff we'd been doing. But I did manage to stay alert enough to monitor the cable news and record all the coverage of the Kerry/Edwards visits that day, some of which DID feature (briefly) my grandkids.
I wouldn't want to do it more than once a decade or so, but WHAT a Saturday!

Friday got interesting
You know how it is when you have company coming. When you have that and also assorted vaguely extended company coming, YOW!
Damaris and her fam hit town around 3 in the afternoon. I said, "Hey, hello, how are ya, make your sign!"
Like a very good gul, she did, as I finished up packing my books and videos I had to mail. We went to town and mailed them, then showed up for the Event Briefing. After doing our assigned tasks, we went to a political snackfest which had very very nice snacks, and then we went to Walmart. I wanted to be sure I had the absolute freshest camera batteries possible, and plus also, we needed bug spray.
A nest of ants had chosen THAT day to swarm for a new queen or whatever, and the breakout spot was RIGHT where people would be lining up the next day to get to see Johns Kerry and Edwards. So we felt it was necessary to go get some chemical assistance to discourage them....
Back at home, I finished out the evening with my grandmotherly duties of sewing red, white and blue sequined tape on all the t-shirts we would be wearing the next day.

Thursday, not getting the hang of
Or was it Tuesdays? Anyway.
Very very very bad day with Mike. As in So Not Good. As in I would so very much appreciate it if no one called Child Protective Services, kthxbye.

Getting caught up -- last Wednesday
OK, let's do this thing.
Last Wednesday Mike and I went to Garden City AGAIN to get his braces replaced AGAIN. Happily, the dentist is beginning to see what I'm up against here and did not charge me anything extra. We are not QUITE at the point of welding the wires in place, but that appears to be an actual option. However, as of now, Sunday night, all is well....
On Wednesday, the Prowers County Dems got to meet with the advange team organizing the Kerry/Edwards visit. It was short, but intriguing, and we are all hyped for what's coming next.

Why I have been too busy to post for the last couple of days

Have to admit, it's getting better....
Sorry, I kind of sank beneath the surface there, but I'm very close to being to the point where I can suck air again!
Yesterday was not so good here at the House of Unruly Fish and 12 Year Olds, but today was better. Mike has been being very helpful assisting me with checking the hundreds of videos I bought for resale. The only problem comes when he finds one relating to trains and wishes to add it to his collection. And then there's the little matter of me forgetting to vet the stack, and him sticking in a copy of "Malibu Nights" -- "At night, the waves are waves of pleasure!" Happily, he was picking his fingers when the ladies on screen were removing their tops...and he also doesn't yet understand that most people don't think nudity and casual belong in the same sentence....
Today Mike and I had to head to the County Nursing Service so he could get some shots. He stepped on a nail (in the course of doing something he'd been TOLD not to do) and a records check revealed he was due for a tetanus upgrade, as well as a couple more. So that was a good lesson in "bad choices lead to bad events".
My big outside job tonight was cleaning the fish pond and filter. It was a big pain, but I am pleased to announce that we have MANY little baby snails!
The plans for John Kerry's visit keep shifting, but hopefully I will know more tomorrow night. Mike and I must make the trek to Garden City AGAIN, first thing in the morning, but maybe the meeting later will cheer me up.

Do you mean...?
I regularly search for my surname, Crites, on eBay, partly because I am often amused at what some of my distant relations did for a living, and partly because now and then a zine pops up that I had a story in.
Also because it's darkly amusing that when I do a search for Crites, eBay always asks me, "Did you mean "Crimes"?
How do they know about my brothers???
