Hey, a chance to use the Blog for its proper purpose! Venting!

One of the things I did last week in the bill-paying portion of our show was to drop off a check to our former bank, paying off the balance of the overdraft that was left owing when we dropped them like a handful of smelly fly-blown skunk entrails to start an account at Lamar Civic Federal Credit Union, where the staff is still human and decent.

So I get a phone call this morning, to let me know I still owe them 42 cents.

That's right. The all-knowing and all-powerful Bookkeeping Department at First National Bank in Lamar can take the time to dun someone for 42 cents, but can't be bothered to look into the concerns of a (15 year +) customer who was being arbitrarily yanked around. There's good business sense, huh?

No, I do not intend to pay them the 42 cents.

I didn't get anything posted Sunday, because the day went inexplicably bad about mid-afternoon, so I just rode it out and figured today would be better. Which it was, much.

The cracked bins of sales goods I discovered Saturday turned out not to be totally ruined--in fact, we only lost a handful of so-so books. Could have been MUCH worse. Got a satisfying amount of work done, and then fulfilled my promise to MIke to take him swimming for the last session of the summer. At least today (unlike yesterday) the pool was OPEN because the lifeguards bothered to SHOW UP FOR WORK. Mike made some cutting remarks yesterday about them "not doing their duty"!

Speaking of Mike, during his homework time he dictated a story to me. Here it is:

Mike's Colorado State Fair Job

The Colorado State Fair is in Pueblo. I am running the ride called Ring of Fire. My friend Kelby is running the Sea Dragon roller coaster. It goes up and down, and a hard turn too. And up up again and down again and stops at the station.

I am starting my ride. I push the green button and make it go. It starts going upside-down and upside-down again backwards. Again! The track is still moving. The roller coaster stops at the station.

The people like it. They love that Ring of Fire because it goes upside-down.

The sun went down. It's night time. The lights start coming on. On the Ring of Fire, the lights blink in circles over and over.

If you wonder why I think this is such a great piece, you can learn a bit about Mike by going here:

This was a very satisfying day. Got up at 6am to hit the sales, and didn't get home to take my nappie until 1pm. We spent at least $100 on books, too, and even more on other Stuff. BUT I got up and started listing some of the books, and sold 2 for 1/3 of today's outlay already! One book we bought is a rare one worth well over $100 by itself. So, yeah, a good day!

The other day I was trying to decide what my favorite part of online selling was. Maybe going out and buying things at sales? The thrill of the hunt? Or is it listing the goods, and finding out through research that I scored a big winner? That's always fun. And I have a compulsive love for carefully alphabetizing my listed books, and gazing with satisfaction on the rows and rows of potential income. But the actual SALES, where you GET some cash--what could be better?

My conclusion was that having a personal business where I can stay home and also have all this enjoyment is the BEST possible type of employment, making me the luckiest Susan in the world!

It's not every day I get to spend thousands of dollars, but yester/today (Friday) was one. OK, so it was only paying bills. It's still a very satisfying thing to do. If I keep working steadily, selling our goodies on the various net sites, we could be debt-free in as little as three years. So okay, make it five, since I keep bidding on things like sequined neon-orange underpants and neon light pens....
